Establishment of inter-municipal cooperation in the agricultural sector

Agreement on the Implementation of the Project "Establishment of inter-municipal cooperation in the agricultural sector within the area of the City of Bijeljina and municipalities of Ugljevik and Lopare" was signed on 12 May, 2015 by the Mayor of Bijeljina Mićo Mićić, the Mayor of Ugljevik Vasilije Perić and the Mayor of Lopare Rado Savić.

The cooperation between these three neighboring local communities will be implemented within the Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP), which is a joint initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the UNDP BiH.

The main goal of this Project is to contribute to the overall development of agriculture in the region and to support the sector of greenhouse production as an activity which in the short term can offer new jobs in rural areas.

The project envisages the establishment of an Inter-Municipal Council for Agriculture, which will be composed of representatives of the authorities of local communities, producers, processors and professionals. The role of the Inter-Municipal Council for Agriculture will be to direct resources into agricultural measures that give the best results. During the implementation of the project, 24 new greenhouses of ​​9,600 m² shall be established. Through the allocation of greenhouses and education on the basics of greenhouse production, 24 producers shall be directly supported. Additionally, the printing of promotional materials, as well as participation in TV and radio broadcasts will be an integral part of the project.The total value of the project is cca BAM 150.000 (cca  € 76.000), out of which the City of Bijeljina and the Municipalities of Lopare and Ugljevik will jointly finance cca BAM 75,348.00 (cca  € 38.700), while the contribution of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation through the ILDP project amounts cca BAM 76.000 (cca  € 39.000).
