Bijeljina in the local communities strengthening project

On March 29 in Sarajevo, Bijeljina Mayor Mićo Mićić and representatives of 12 other local communities signed, related to the project "Strengthening the role of local communities in BiH", letters of intent on cooperation with UNDP, the Swiss Embassy and the Swedish Development Agency.

The project selection committee, among 63 local authorities units, which had applied on Public call and submitted application, selected 13 local authorities units as partners in the first phase of the project - Bijeljina, Brčko District, Gračanica, Gradačac, Gradiška, Ključ, Kotor Varoš, Laktaši , Petrovo, Sanski Most, Stari Grad Sarajevo, Tešanj, Žepče.The objec

tive of the first phase of this project, whose value is approximately 14.3 million KM, is to encourage greater participation of citizens in decision-making process at the local level, providing better municipal and social services and in implementing development initiatives at the municipal or city level. The project includes the revitalization of local communities as a key means of achieving these objectives.

The project "Strengthening the role of local communities in BiH" is a joint initiative of the Swiss Government and the Government of Sweden, implemented by the UNDP in BiH, and in partnership with the BiH Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of the Republic of Srpska, the Ministry of Justice of the Federation of BiH, the Government of Brčko District and both entity associations of municipalities and cities.
