PROPOSAL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BIJELJINA FREE ZONE ADOPTED
At its sixth session, the Bijeljina City Assembly adopted the Proposal for the Decision on the Establishment of the Bijeljina Free Zone. Presenting the Proposal, Acting Head of the Department of Economy Dušan Trifković emphasised that the establishment of free business zones is very important, particularly for entrepreneurs engaged in exports.
Explaining the details of the Proposal, Trifković stated that it involves defining the area where the free business zone will be established, specifically industrial zones two, three and four, as well as the companies “PASS” and “SEP” in Ljeskovac. He pointed out that establishing a free zone is a lengthy process on which the Department of Economy has been working for a long time.
“Among other things, at the end of last year a study on the establishment of a free zone with a list of activities was completed, and at the beginning of this year, together with a number of entrepreneurs, we visited Pirot. This was an opportunity for them to see first-hand how a free zone functions, and a meeting was also held with representatives of the company Michelin Tigar Tyres, in order to see the advantages that this company enjoys by operating within a free zone,” said Trifković.
He also stressed that a feasibility study on the economic justification for establishing the free zone has been completed, and with the adoption of the Decision at the Assembly session, the study will be finalised.
This means that the study can be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Entrepreneurship for the purpose of obtaining the appropriate decision. The next steps involve setting up a company to oversee the establishment of the free zone and addressing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina to secure a permit for operation, Trifković specified, adding that the adopted amendment concerns certain technical elements.
