Reception Held for the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany

The Mayor of Bijeljina, Ljubiša Petrović, hosted a reception for the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alfred Grannas.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, European integration processes, as well as development projects and cooperation between the local community and international partners.

Ambassador Grannas also pointed out that neighbouring countries have achieved better results than Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of gross domestic product (GDP).

Thanking the Ambassador for his visit, Mayor Ljubiša Petrović emphasised that Bijeljina is a multi-ethnic city where unity, mutual respect, and cooperation are nurtured, adding that people are the most important resource of every local community. He stressed that the City of Bijeljina remains open to new partnerships, exchange of experiences, and cooperation with all institutions and friends willing to contribute to the development of the local community and the improvement of citizens’ quality of life.

During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on the importance of partnership and cooperation on projects related to energy efficiency, the development of free economic zones, and infrastructure connectivity, as well as on projects financed by the German Government, such as the recent free internet project in the city centre.

Finally, the participants also discussed the friendly cooperation that Bijeljina has maintained for many years with the German city of Langenhagen. On that occasion, it was highlighted that teachers and pupils from primary schools in Bijeljina visit Langenhagen every year, where through socialising and joint activities they exchange experiences, opinions, and good practices. At the same time, delegations of young people from Langenhagen visit Bijeljina, further strengthening the friendly and cultural ties between the two cities.
