GIS - following of technological trends

The Bijeljina City Administration decided to implement the project of introduction Geographic information System (GIS), aiming to improve the quality of services provided to citizens and following global technology trends, said at today's press conference Mayor Mićo Mićić:

- The application of this computer system will provide easier access to different information, primarily related to spatial planning, save the time for citizens and potential investors, ensure efficient management, but also reduce the costs of administration, Mayor Mićić added.

The basic idea of GIS is to be adjusted to the user needs. Every citizen that has internet access, via computer or smart phone, will be able to use the GIS services that will allow him access to geographic, spatial, infrastructure and all other data related to the locations in the territory of Bijeljina.

- The basis of the system is a geographical map that will be upgraded with the data from the cadastre. The next layer of data are data on infrastructure. The system is multifaceted and can always be upgraded with the new data, such as property information, a market value of plots, data on conditions for construction, etc. Special attention will be dedicated to the policy of using the data and for this purpose will be developed special protocols and approach procedures. All citizens shall have equal rights to access data, said Prof. Dr. Vlado Simeunović, adviser to the Mayor and coordinator of the Project.

The basic elements of the system will be in use in mid-July 2016. The GIS user manual will be developed in the upcoming period and will be available on the official web sites of the City of Bijeljina: www.sobijeljina.org and www.investinbijeljina.org and at the info desk in the premises of the City Administration buildings.

The project is supported by the Financing mechanism for integrated and sustainable development projects in Republic of Srpska, which was established through joint initiative of the RS Ministry of Finance, the RS Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government, the Republic of Srpska Investment-Development Bank (IRBRS), the Swiss Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The value of the project is BAM 140,000 (cca € 72,000), of which BAM 50,000 (€ 97,500) is provided from the budget of the City of Bijeljina.
