Switzerland supports the development of Bijeljina

The Mayor of Bijeljina Mićo Mićić and Ambassador of Swiss Confederation to BiH Heinrich Maurer, who visited Bijeljina on November 20, discussed the continuing the implementation of the joint projects and expending of future cooperation.

Presenting Bijeljina as regional development leader, Ambassador Maurer stated that the every contry should have the local community to act as example of good practice and be model for others. Swiss Governement supports the development of municipalities in B&H through number of projects, since the Switzerland as well, relies on a strong local self-governments system, concluded Maurer.

Besides investments in various projects, Switzerland has donated around BAM 10 milions as an aid during the floods, but also in floods prevention, thus demonstrating solidarity with the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina which was hit by catastrophic floods in May 2014.

Mayor Mićić expressed his gratitude to Ambassador for visiting Bijeljina and mentioned the projects jointly implemented by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the City of Bijeljina.

The result of this successful cooperation are enhanced services  to citizens through opening a new and modern counter hall. Within the Inter-municipal cooperation project between Bijeljina, Lopare and Ugljevik, 24 greenhouses were built and thus supported 24 agricultural producers, that also received the free training on the greenhouse production.

Currently, it is in progress implementation of the pilot project in the field of energy efficiency, the introduction of heating and cooling  system in one of the buildings owned by the City of Bijeljina, said Mićić.

At the meeting, Ambassador Muarer was informed about the long term objectives of the City administration - full flood protection of Semberia region, the realization of large infrastructure projects, continuing construction of Industrial zones and the creation of new jobs.

Within the project "Strengthening nursing in B&H" (PROSES) whose value is approximately BAM 8 million, Ambassador Maurer also visited the medical care center in Bijeljina. During that occassion he handed over the donation of the Swiss Government, that included field vehicle, medical and computer equipment. Thanks to this donation, nurses who have been trained in the "ProSes" project, would be easier to independently support the chronic, severely ill and dying patients in their homes.
